Alan
A-luhn
The name Alan has contested origins, with linguists generally favoring a Brittonic or Celtic source. The most widely accepted etymology connects it to the Old Breton Alan, possibly meaning “rock” or “handsome,” with cognates in Welsh alawn (“harmony”).
An alternative theory traces it to the Alans, an ancient Iranian-speaking nomadic people of the Eurasian steppe related to the Sarmatians, who entered Europe in the 4th and 5th centuries and gave their name to regions including the Spanish Catalonia
(originally Goth-Alania).
